Yoga is one of the most powerful strengthening activities you can do for your body and mind. It has the ability to make the brain and the body work together, in something which can be described as a meditative workout.
I’ve been doing yoga for many years and found it really helps me to deal with the stresses of everyday life. When that panicked feeling comes some days, I use yoga as a way to reconnect with myself.
Sometimes during yoga it's common to feel a little stressed, especially when trying to breathe and clear the mind - you can’t always clear your mind effectively or quickly, and the stress of this comes out into your body. The idea with yoga is that you can stretch these stresses away – mind to body, body to the world.
To help get your started I’ve put together four simple yoga poses for you to try out. Doing these five poses in a small cycle each day will enable you to build core body strength and quieten your mind.
To help get your started I’ve put together four simple yoga poses for you to try out. Doing these five poses in a small cycle each day will enable you to build core body strength and quieten your mind.
How to do it
- Simply get your body into your chosen pose
- Breathe in for four seconds, hold for two, then breathe out for four
- Repeat this breathing exercise ten times for each pose below
It’s important to listen to what your body is telling you during these stretches. It’s common to feel a little uncomfortable the first time you try these poses, especially if you don’t usually move much during the day, but watch out for any pain as this is a signal that somethings not right. Don’t push your body too hard, as with any exercise, take yoga at your own pace.
